Western Hills : Bracing weather, verdant surroundings
... |
|
|
Welcome to the hill stations of western India. Nestling
among the mountain ranges that sweep across the states
of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, these hill
resorts have much to offer.
Saputara Hills ( Gujarat ) : The only hill resort of
Gujarat, sitauted at an altitude of 873 metres on the
Sahyadhri range. Its a picturesque hill resort
overlooking an emerald green plateau. Places of interest
- Nageshwar temple museum, the forest nursery, lake with
boating facility, and a popular base for excursions to
the Mahal Baridipara Forest Wildlife sanctuary (60km) &
the Gira waterfalls (52km).
Pachmarhi Hills ( Madhya Pradesh ) : is a hill
station in the low-lying Satpura hills of Madhya
Pradesh. This beautiful area was first discovered by
Captain Forsyth, a Bengal Lancer, in 1857. On his advice
it was developed into sanatorium and hill resort. The
architectural and city plan still reflect its
antecedents. The area is off the usual tourist beat and
hence not over-developed. Instead, it is simply a
lovely, relaxing area to 'get away from it all. |
